Some of the biggest NBA Draft busts of all time and where they are now?

In honor of the NBA draft coming up in June every year around the time the draft starts, notorious names from college and overseas become a household name. This year their are a lot of young talent entering the draft, but not all names live up to expectations once they enter the NBA. Each year there is lottery picks who do not showcase there skills as they did in college or overseas.

During this blog you will see familiar faces who use to be top athletes in college, who are now currently out of the NBA, let’s see where these player’s are now.

Adam Morrison

Who remember’s Adam Morrison the University of Gonzaga standout shooting guard who took the Zags to the NCAA tournament Sweet Sixteen, and was considered to be one of the top college basketball players in 2005-06. He was also a finalist for the Naismith and the Wooden Award, and was a co-player of the year with J.J. Redick. Morrison’s career did not easily transfer into the NBA level.

Morrison was drafted No. 3 by Charlotte Bobcats and played two seasons with them, his best season was his rookie year averaging 11.8 points per game. In his next season with the Bobcats his performance and playing time decreased, and was cut from the rotation. Morrison left Charlotte and went to Los Angles in 2008-10 to play for the Lakers for two seasons. He had knee injuries throughout his career and never really seemed to be the player he was at Gonzaga. Out of the two seasons with the Lakers Morrison received an NBA championship ring (thanks to Kobe Bryant) but never played more than five minutes during the regular season and playoffs.

Morrison has tried to make a come back to the league, by joining summer league teams but was still waived from the team and decided to quite the NBA. Now Morrison is apart of the coaching staff at Gonzaga, mentoring future athletes.

Kwame Brown

Kwame Brown.. Where do I start from here, well for starters Brown was drafted No.1 by Washington Wizards and has played for seven teams for 12 seasons. That’s already saying enough since he has been bouncing around teams ever since he came into the NBA. Brown was supposed to be one the next best centers, but due to injuries Brown was unable to hold his standards. Brown has averaged a total of 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds during the course of 12 seasons on different teams.

There has been rumors that Brown may come back into the NBA, but a lot of teams are looking for younger and more skillful player’s at the center position, who do not have a huge injury history. We will see if Kwame Brown will make a comeback to the NBA in the future.

Last but not least is Greg Oden who was drafted No.1 by the Portland Trailblazer in 2007.  Some believe that Greg Oden will “be remembered as the biggest bust in NBA history”. That’s pretty sad to stat being Oden was one of the biggest prospects coming out of the University of Ohio State and was seen as one of the next big stars in the league. But after five knee injuries, Oden has not been a consistent player in the NBA due to those reasons.

Oden has been on two teams and has been hurt almost every year, it’s sad to see these player’s not being able to showcase their skills that they had at the college level. But college and NBA are totally different levels of competition. I think if Oden did not get hurt he would still be in the NBA and would be one of the dominant centers today.

After March Madness is over and once June comes around, I will be watching and seeing who I think will be the 2017 NBA busts. So far, I have no predictions on who I think will be a bust, but I sure hope that each player in the draft this year will live up to their expectations. I do not want to see another Adam Morrison, Kwame Brown or Greg Oden who dominated the college level and not having an effect in the NBA. Injuries are apart of the game of basketball, and you can not control what happens on the court. With that being said I will be watching closely to see who will be the next big bust in the NBA.

Freshmen Star Markelle Fultz Failed To Take The University of Washington To The NCAA Tournament

Lottery pick Markelle Fultz and Lorenzo Romar season did not go according to plan.

BREAKING NEWS! As of right now Lorenzo Romar will remain as the University of Washington men’s basketball team head coach next year, but UW is still evaluating other options. The city of Seattle must be pissed to hear this shocking news. This season the Huskies are a disappointing 9-21 heading into the Pac-12 tournament. Fultz suffered an injury that took him out of conference play, and the Huskies fell off the map and kissed their chance of reaching the NCAA tournament once again this season.

The way the Huskies played this season you would have thought that Lorenzo Romar was going to be fired as head coach. This is one of the most disappointing season’s in UW history, especially with a top lottery pick in Markelle Fultz who is leaving after his poor freshmen season.

At this rate the Huskies will fall once again to USC for their final conference game of the season, and will end up 9-22 overall and 2-17 in the Pac-12 conference at the end of the season. 12 in a row loses the Huskies suffered majority of their season, and it did not help that Fultz suffered an injury for a portion of games.

No tournament this year

The Pac-12 tournament is coming soon, and as of right now the Huskies are in no shape of making an impact in the Pac-12 tournament. If Markelle Fultz misses the first game of the tournament, it will be good-bye Huskies as they would most likely lose to whoever they face. Fultz, one of the 15 finalist for the John R. Wooden award that’s given to the nation’s most outstanding player, will not win the Pac-12 tournament or make it to the NCAA tournament as sad as it sounds.

Washington’s Markelle Fultz was named to all-Pac-12 team and the Pac-12’s all-freshmen list despite being dead last in conference play. The Huskies point guard is averaging 23.2 scoring average in the Pac-12. Although his stats are showing that he is a force to be reckoned with, Fultz was still not capable of leading his teammates to a winning season.

Fultz (20) & Trier (35)

The end of the season

Even though, Fultz supporting cast was not as talented as Lonzo Ball (UCLA) or Dillon Brooks (Oregon) he did the best he could with what he was given. Last year, Fultz thought rookies San Antonio Spurs Dejounte Murry and Phoenix Suns Marquese Chriss were going to stay at the University of Washington when Fultz committed. Just imagine if those two would have stayed, who know’s maybe the Huskies would be nationally ranked in the country.

Another year has gone and I will not see the University of Washington men’s basketball team reach the NCAA tournament. My dreams have been crushed once again, to see UW not make an appearance in the tournament for another year. UW has been producing NBA athletes for some years now, but that does not mean anything because every year UW loses and their best player declares into the NBA draft after the season ends. UW can never build a powerhouse team because athletes always are one-and-done there. Which is bad tradition!

Next season is the ultimate test for the dawgs, where they will have the nation’s top player in Michael Porter Jr., who just won a 3A state championship at Nathan Hale high school this year. The Huskies are expecting Porter Jr. and a handful of new talent, to bring a new style of competitiveness to University of Washington next season. In hopes to reach the NCAA tournament!

Russell Westbrook Not Starting In The All-Star Game

russ

Russell Westbrook Point guard for Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite putting up over 20 triple doubles so far this season Russell Westbrook is still not worthy of starting in the NBA All-Star Game.

In case you been living under a rock, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder will not start in this year’s NBA All-Star Game. This is breaking news because Westbrook is averaging a triple-double, meaning he averages more then 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists per game. At this rate he is one of the favorites to win this season MVP award the way he is carrying his team. He is a force to be recognized in the league, and is doing so with a lack of a supporting team, and he is still not receiving the credibility to start in the All-Star Game.

Why Not Russell?

While the world may be wondering why someone who puts up triple doubles almost every night, didn’t get a starting position on the heavily deep western All-Star team. My beliefs bring me to the issue between Russell Westbrook and head coach of the All-Star Game Steve Kerr and his team player’s Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and newly acquired and former teammate of Russell Westbrook Kevin Durant. So far, this season the Golden State Warriors have won every match up between Oklahoma City Thunder, and during those heated games a lot of anger, frustration and emotion was shown from start to finish. I know it’s sad to see Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook not teammates anymore back on OKC, but time’s have changed and so have Westbrook and Durant. But, that’s another story! The main focus is why is Russell Westbrook not starting in the All-Star Game, he definitely deserves it for what he has proven so far this season.

hi-res-e0d0769303255832c718dcda1f9cd904_crop_north

Averaging a triple-double apparently is not enough.

This year the Western conference is filled with talent, especially in the guard position. Not everyone can earn a spot in the All-Star Game, which is hard for some players to accept that they are not “All-Star worthy” player’s. Since Westbrook is averaging a triple double more then any active player in the league, he deserves a starting position for the West All-Star team. I understand that Steve Kerr is head coach and he rather see his star Stephen Curry start at the point instead of Russell Westbrook. Also, that All-Star votes are depended on fan voting, which means that the fans select who they want to see and start in the All-Star Game. The fans have spoken and decided to see Curry and Durant of the Golden State Warriors start the All-Star Game, instead of the triple double machine in Westbrook.

gettyimages-510298074-e1455806945991

Russell Westbrook (left) receiving the MVP award in 2016 and Kevin Durant (left) congratulating him.

Can Westbrook play with Golden State Warriors?

This will be an awkward game for Russell Westbrook, since he has to partner up with his enemies on the GSW roster and has to listen to the Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Last weekend Westbrook and Durant and the rest of the GSW played in a heated match up. During the game I watched Westbrook and Durant saying disrespectful words to one another, which led to a heated game that the GSW won. It’s going to be hard to watch Westbrook and Durant play together, I wonder if their will be all smiles or frowns during this years All-Star Game.

In my opinion the All-Star Game is completely not fun to watch anymore. My reasons are for one, the fans select who should start and be on the roster. I think the All-Star Game should be based on the best performances from the top athletes from both West and East conference. As of right now Westbrook is putting up the best stats in the NBA, despite his field goal percentage and turn-over ratio affecting him to be the top player in the league. I still believe that Russell Westbrook is the best point guard and top 5 player in the NBA this season. Russell Westbrook should start in the All-Star Game! What I would like to see is Westbrook, Durant and Harden all start during the All-Star Game and play together just like they use to in Oklahoma City. The All-Star Game will be on February 19, let’s see if Westbrook will receive enough playing time to defend his All-Star Game MVP title for the third time.

Star freshman point guards Washington’s Markelle Fultz and UCLA’s Lonzo Ball are already considered the top picks of the NBA draft

ballfultz2-3

Lonzo Ball (left) Markelle Fultz (right)

Will Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball be the better NBA PG to help teams out?

Sometimes basketball games do not live up to the hype.

Let’s review the February 4, 2017 game against the top two star freshmen Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball squared off in Seattle to battle, who is the best freshmen point guard in the country and to test their individual skills out. Considered talent shown by the No. 1 and No. 2 draft prospects when they met each other Saturday night. All the NBA scouts and executives who traveled to the state of Washington for the matchup, was expecting a high quality performance from both

In front of 10,000 at Alaska Airlines Arena and the first sellout in five years , the Huskies (9-14, 2-9 in Pac-12) lost their fifth straight game and fell to 9-14 and 2-9 in the Pac-12. Going into the game the favorited team the UCLA Bruin’s was already expecting the victory coming into the game. The Huskies faced off against No. 11 UCLA and lost 107-66, it was the most points for UW to give up against an opponent. Despite Fultz lose he managed to score 25 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, but he also had five turnovers and forced a few shots. The only reason Fultz turn the ball over and forced shots, is because his teammates were lacking the skills they needed to help Fultz.

Lonzo Ball (2)

The marquee match up between UW and UCLA or Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball, however you want to say Lonzo Ball outshines Markelle Fultz in matchup between possible No. 1 overall picks in the NBA draft. Ball’s UCLA team dominated from the start to finish. Fultz’s UW team struggled for most part of the game, which led to a huge lead by UCLA to win the game.

As of right now UCLA is No. 10 in the new AP poll and has a legitimate chance to make the Final Four, while Washington is a long shot just to make the NIT at 9-14 overall. Does this mean Fultz’s lacks the ability to be a star since he loses and Ball is a winner who makes his teammates better? Well, not quite.

Markelle Fultz (20)

So who is better Fultz or Ball?

In my opinion I believe that the better NBA point guard between the two freshmen stars is Markelle Fultz. Going into the college season Markelle Fultz, was seen has the best player entering the 2017 NBA draft come around June. Despite all the hype and praise Fultz received coming into the season, going to the University of Washington has made it difficult for Fultz to be recognized as a winner. However, the type of things Fultz can do with the ball, is impressive despite his lack of teammates. Fultz’s is averaging a season high 23.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 6.0 APG, 1.6 steals, 50.2 2-pt%, 42.1 3-pt% on a not so good team like Ball. The reason I think Fultz is still a superior athlete despite his team never winning, is his ability to play the pick-and-roll game. Fultz is a natural at doing pick-and-roll plays for his teammates, which will make him a great point guard at the NBA level.

Washington and UCLA meet next on March 1 at UCLA. I can guarantee that Washington will make the game competitive, but I will be watching closely to see how Fultz and Ball square off for round two.

I believe that if Fultz can pick up his defensive effort and prevent Ball from out smarting him on defense, it will say a lot for Fultz NBA future. I think that both Fultz and Ball be great add-ons for any NBA team who picks them, but I feel that Markelle Fultz will bring more to the table with his skilled dribbling and making plays in transition, quick first step and is always a threat, ability to score, pass, athleticism and leadership. It all depends on what teams are looking for during draft night, but I still stick with Markelle Fultz being the better NBA point guard.

Is Markelle Fultz among Washington Huskies top guards ever

fultz

Lorenzo Romar considers Markelle Fultz the best guard he ever coached, despite coaching UW legends Brandon Roy and Isaiah Thomas.

Although the University of Washington Huskies men’s basketball program has been a sure disappointment this season, Markelle Fultz is the talk around Seattle, Washington. Lorenzo Romar the head coach of the UW Huskies has always had talent, especially at the guard position such as greats like Brandon Roy, Isaiah Thomas, Nate Robinson, Tony Wroten, Terrance Ross and recently Dejounte Murray. Romar has always produced “1-and-done” talent at Hec Ed Pavillion, and went to the NBA but this year is a different story.

Markelle Fultz, who entered this season as one of the nation’s top basketball recruits was seen high expectations from the city of Seattle and the nation to bring the University of Washington back to the NCAA tournament. Star freshmen Markelle Fultz is projected to be a lottery pick in the NBA draft this June. But, that  does not matter since Fultz’s and the Huskies are struggling in the Pac-12 this season. The Huskies are now 9-12 overall and 2-7 in the Pac-12 ranking them No. 11 in conference play. Fultz’s is averaging 23.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

screen-shot-2017-01-30-at-8-19-22-pm

For starters, the Huskies basketball team has underperformed thus far and hasn’t made the NCAA tournament since 2010-11 season. Despite the Huskies having a struggling season, Lorenzo Romar believes that Markelle Fultz is the best player he had a privilege to coach. Even though Romar had greats like Brandon Roy and Isaiah Thomas, he feels that Fultz’s brings a totally different package to the Huskies with a variety of shooting from behind the arc, creating shots, ball dominance, court vision and under the radar athleticism. Fultz’s is the ideal new-age NBA point guard who can do it all, but besides to win basketball games. Is it his fault or the coaching staff? One may wonder what the issue seem’s to be for Lorenzo Romar and the Huskies this season.

9742775-ncaa-basketball-nevada-at-washington-1-850x560

Why UW?

One may think why did Markelle Fultz select UW to play his collegiate season? Fultz received a lot of offers to play for any college in the nation. The reason for Markelle going to UW is Lorenzo Romar, connection between each other. Markelle feels that he trusts Romar plan for the young star athlete, and he fits into Romar system and he can help him develop his game to the next level.

Both Brandon Roy and Isaiah Thomas lead UW to an NCAA appearance, but as of right now the young core Huskies will not be going to the tournament again after the season ends. What does this mean for Lorenzo Romar will he still be head coach? As of right now the University feel’s confident with Romar, since he produces NBA guards frequently. After, this season the Huskies will be adding All-American five star recruit and lottery draft pick Michael Porter Jr. to the men’s Huskies team next season. Will Romar change next season’s new Huskies and win the Pac-12 tournament and go to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010-11 season.

Jan. 16, 2017- Micheal Porter Jr. and Nathan Hale player’s receive bragging rights and trophy during the MLK classic against Oak hill academy

All-American Micheal Porter Jr. shows off his skills while defeating No. 7 Oak Hill Academy

Seattle Washington newest elite basketball player Michael Porter Jr. coming out of Nathan Hale High school in north Seattle, was the talk of the Martin Luther King day basketball classic tournament. Nathan Hale played against one of the premier basketball prep schools in the country Oak Hill Academy. Nathan Hale put away Oak Hill Academy 80-77.

The All-American Michael Porter Jr. dropped 37 points as the Raiders topped one of the best prep schools in the country. Porter also delivered  five rebounds with four assists and three steals in the game that was broadcasted nationally on ESPNU.

“Maybe this is the first time a lot of people have seen us play, but (Porter) is the type of guy that tried to do everything and he can do a lot,” Nathan Hale coach Brandon Roy said.

Oak Hill, ranked No. 7 in the nation and Nathan Hale ranked No. 8, the Raiders (14-0) proves that Hale is a power house in the state of Washington.

Porter Jr. was not alone in this win with teammate help from P.J. Fuller II who also sparked an offensive game, by dropping 17 points to match Porter Jr.  Micheal’s younger brother Jontay Porter who had 13 points with seven rebounds and a few assists.

As you can see Porter Jr. is a humble kid who values his teammates effort and support to lead the Raiders to defeat Oak Hill Academy. Be on the look out for the Raider’s to make an impact from here on out, where they are hoping to make it to the state tournament and win it all.

Michael Porter Jr. has recently committed to the University of Washington men’s basketball program.  Michael Porter Jr. is rated No. 2 in ESPN for class of 2017. In hopes of the Huskies returning to the Pac-12 tournament after failing to reach it multiple times, the Huskies are confident that come around 2017-2018 season the Huskies will make a return to the NCAA division I tournament.

NBA Rumors: Sixers looking to add depth in Point guard position

Local Seattle Washington native,  former University of Washington standout and a successful business man in the greater Seattle area, Nate Robinson is looking to make a return to the NBA.

Most of us know of Robinson’s success in the league, from his notorious slam dunks, quickness, speed, ball handling skills, 3-point shooting expertise and of course his height. It takes more heart then height for Nate Robinson to be successful athlete.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to upgrade their point guard rotation, and to add more scoring for their team. It appears they are looking at a wide variety of guards who can fit into their 15th man roster.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers are scouting point guards Nate Robinson, Jordan Farmer and Yogi Farrell as potential targets to sign for a 10-day contract and hopefully stay on the team for the remainder of the 2016-2017 NBA season.

With a few of the Sixers starting guards being sidelined due to injuries, only one guard remains healthy.

Robinson has already spent majority of the time in the NBA as a “role” player. At the age of 32, Robinson last played two games with the New Orleans Pelicans last season, before being waived and tried out for the Seattle Seahawks as a wide receiver.

Look for Nate Robinson to make an NBA comeback within these few days for the remainder of the season.
